Description

Our client is an international company, supplying essential industrial gases and related equipment to various sectors, focusing on innovation and sustainability. Currently expanding, they are now looking for a Site Materials and Logistics Manager to join their team in Rotterdam.

Job Profile for Site Materials and Logistics Manager
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assists in the calculation of detailed schedules for equipment, materials, and manpower with respect to schedule needs versus resource capabilities
  • Plan and execute the material management of bulk and engineered equipment, systems, and construction materials in support of project operations within established material management plans, policies, and procedures
  • Manage all onsite logistics movements, including organising plant, equipment and transport for material shipments, either to or from on or offsite contractors or Construction locations.  This may be through an existing Contractor arrangement or via 3rd party companies
  • Ensure lifting plans are in place, reviewed and approved for all required lifts
  • Review material status reports to provide delivery updates to Construction Management
  • Advise Construction Management on developments that may substantially affect project costs or schedules, and work with project teams and suppliers to find mitigating solutions
  • Support Project and Construction Management in the identification and assessment of risks with respect to the supply of equipment and materials to the job site
  • Provide training and workshops on Materials Management practices, standards, and methodologies
  • Integrate contractor personnel into the Materials Management and Logistics teams, as it is envisaged that contractor personnel will supplement the AP team but will be led by the AP Materials and Logistics Manager
  • Support and collaborate with Construction Management and other teams on on-site materials management and logistics issues
  • Make recommendations to improve, raise awareness, be knowledgeable of, and understand the current schedule on all equipment and materials, address any problems and concerns
  • Analyse material allocation forecasts, and provide recommendations to the project for necessary corrective action (e.g., early identification of potential surplus, optimal expediting, identifying impacts of delays in material delivery and providing construction alternatives, etc.)
  • Co-ordinate and expedite material deliveries from both the Expediting and Logistics functions to ensure no hold-ups in material deliveries
  • Receive material deliveries on-site, open and check them upon arrival for compliance to Purchase Order requirements in terms of Qty, Quality, Damage, Short receipt, storage and subsequent issue to Site Contractors
  • Record all Material deliveries via MRR into Smart Materials (SMat) and issue OS&D for any discrepancies for resolution by the Home Office
  • Be a “Hands-on” Material Manager with a can-do attitude to understand where all materials are located on Site and ensure Smart Materials reflects true and accurate information with regard to Materials
  • Assist Engineering and Procurement Managers in ensuring that Shop Quality control plans and schedules are in place and that problems and concerns are being given proper attention
  • Issue weekly and monthly reports of site material management and logistics activities for the project showing overall status and identifying significant delivery slippages against the construction schedule
  • Maintain Materials Location Logs and Inventory Lists for ready access to equipment and materials that are on-site
  • Review receiving and shipping notices, yard layouts and reports schedule inadequacies
  • Ensure materials management personnel meet with disciplined construction supervisors to coordinate the flow of materials to the work fronts
  • Support the Construction Manager in the development of manhours and Staffing Plans and Procedures, if necessary
  • Implement ERP systems including Scheduling and Planning, Inventory, Purchasing, and Receiving modules

Candidate Profile for Site Materials and Logistics Manager 

  • Must be fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken
  • 6 to 8 years experience of supervising and leading Material Management and Logistics team
  • Minimum 10 years experience using planning and scheduling software and systems
  • Experience in performing Site Material Management on projects in the EPC industry
  • Experience in complex procurement environments on major capital projects
  • Strong organisation and planning skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on Smart Materials Software in a Construction Site Environment
  • Strong knowledge of material management, logistics and construction planning
  • Strong ability to train and mentor less skilled material co-ordinators to achieve success
  • Able to lead a multi-company Materials Management and Logistics organisation
  • Able to support and influence project teams to achieve targets and goals
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
